CDPHE is Hiring a Temporary Environmental Regulatory Assistant

CDPHE is looking to recruit a temporary assistant to administer an annual environmental reporting process and fee collection. Flexible hours and project duration with the possibility of transferring into a full-time role with the agency. 

Job Description: This temp position works to administer the Tier II Hazardous Chemical Inventory reporting program and associated billing process. The primary duty is to provide quality customer service to Colorado businesses who must submit a report by March 1, 2022 and ensure the payment of associated fees. This position will then distribute the collected reports to partner entities. Lastly, this position will oversee the billing process for Toxic Release Inventory reporting fees. Note: This position may include some initial on-site training but could be a primarily work from home position. A laptop computer will be provided.

Job Details: 
  • Check the program e-mail box daily and respond to e-mail questions.
  • Provide compliance assistance to businesses in regards to their Tier II reporting responsibilities. Guide businesses through the Tier II reporting process including registration through the Colorado Environmental On-line System (CEOS).
  • Understand and maintain a Tier2Submit database with all Tier II reports for the state.
  • Research and improve compliance assistance resources for reporting entities.
  • Track assessed Tier II fees and follow up with entities who have not paid.
  • Disseminate Tier II reports to partner agencies.
  • Process Toxic Release Inventory invoices for state Pollution Prevention fees.
  • Follow up with entities who have not paid their fees and investigate returned invoices for updated contact information.
Timeline and hours: 
  • Minimum of 24 hours per week up to maximum of 40 hours per week (if desired).
  • Flexible hours - must be available during some core weekday business hours to respond to phone calls, but could include some limited evening/weekend hours responding to e-mails if desired.
  • Flexible start date from around early December to early January.
  • Must be available through March 31, but work could be extended into April/May.
Desired skills: 
  • Motivated to learn and help others. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication skills - especially over the phone and via email.
  • Experience navigating customers through an online process.
  • Familiarity with Google Gmail, Microsoft Excel and a general understanding of databases is helpful. Specific training will be provided.
