The Division of Energy and Environment is searching for a Sustainability Coordinator to develop and deliver sustainability programs in the areas of transportation, waste, and/or energy. These solutions will advance Broomfield’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction targets and Zero Waste Action goals. In addition, the incumbent may represent Broomfield in stakeholder discussions and coordinate with internal and external parties on sustainability topics.
This staffer will work with staff across multiple Eco-Cycle departments to manage and lead consulting projects with Colorado municipalities to help them adopt Zero Waste policies, programs, community education and engagement, services, operations, and infrastructure. Projects may include feasibility studies, gap, and opportunities analyses; municipal Zero Waste plans; waste characterization and waste reduction studies; stakeholder engagement; and policy analysis.

The Zero Waste Valet Associate is responsible for transporting recyclables, compostables and trash for concessions on the B concourse, and educating their staff about best practices in waste diversion. The ZWV Associate will also be responsible for communicating with the Program Manager, Program Director and DEN Airport Sustainability team about how concessions are performing, rates of contamination, and ideas for improvement and/or increased efficiencies for the program. ZWV Associates will weigh each waste stream from each concession and record that weight, along with any instances of contamination, using a specially designed software. This data will be used by Scraps and DEN to report on the impact of the pilot program and to generate progress reports for the concessions themselves. After weights are recorded, ZWV Associates will bring the waste to the proper disposal area (chute, compactor, toter, etc) throughout the concourse.

As the program evolves, we expect that ZWV Managers will reduce the amount of waste transportation and weighing they perform daily and step into a more managerial role for newly hired ZWV Associates.

The Waste Diversion Unit in Colorado helps fund projects that reduce waste and boost the state's economy by overseeing contract monitoring and administration of all waste diversion grants. They support practices that protect the environment, create jobs, and improve public health. As a Recycling Manager at the City of Fort Collins Streets Department, your primary responsibility will be to manage the Timberline Recycling Center and Hoffman Mill Crushing Facility.
The Timberline Recycling Center is a public recyclable drop-off center owned by the City of Fort Collins. It includes the unstaffed Everyday Recyclables Yard and staffed Hard-to-Recycle Materials Yard. Hoffman Mill is a crushing facility that processes concrete and asphalt aggregate, dirt and also conducts composting operations. This crew also maintains alleys, road shoulders, and coordinates mowing efforts.
Onsite staffing and hauling at the Timberline Recycling Center are currently provided by a contractor, but transition is underway for the City to provide these services within the next year. Given that transition, this is a new position within the City, and will start off supporting and helping manage the in-house transition.
The Manager position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Timberline Recycling Center and Hoffman Mill. This includes managing employees, volunteers, contractors, and some hands-on work. Wompost, which stands for Woman-Owned Composting, is a for-profit social enterprise. It is the only compost collection and delivery service based in Aurora, Colorado and services surrounding areas. Wompost provides a simple way to recycle biodegradable waste into compost. Just like curbside trash pickup, they collect food scraps, BPI certified compostable products, and yard waste from customers’ homes and businesses and bring back finished compost soil. They also provide easy and affordable drop-off sites throughout their service area and sell compost soil in bulk.
The City of Pueblo opened the City's RecycleWorks in 2018 as a free recycling drop-off location for area residents. Currently the recycle center accepts cardboard, newspaper, mixed papers, glass, metal, plastic, and other related recyclable materials. Other recyclable materials are accepted for a minimal fee.
