This full-time position will work with the Sustainability Programs department at Walking Mountains to support community engagement, education, and grant management related to the Waste Reduction & Diversion programs. The position is responsible for promoting waste diversion best practices throughout the community and fulfilling the following responsibilities. Specific tactics will focus on outreach to our Spanish-speaking residents to increase program participation while elevating Walking Mountains' brand visibility throughout Eagle County and beyond. This staffer will work with staff across multiple Eco-Cycle departments to manage and lead consulting projects with Colorado municipalities to help them adopt Zero Waste policies, programs, community education and engagement, services, operations, and infrastructure. Projects may include feasibility studies, gap, and opportunities analyses; municipal Zero Waste plans; waste characterization and waste reduction studies; stakeholder engagement; and policy analysis.

This staffer will be a member of Eco-Cycle’s leadership team of Department Directors and will lead Eco-Cycle’s compost strategies and work. Specific responsibilities include:

The Zero Waste Valet Associate is responsible for transporting recyclables, compostables and trash for concessions on the B concourse, and educating their staff about best practices in waste diversion. The ZWV Associate will also be responsible for communicating with the Program Manager, Program Director and DEN Airport Sustainability team about how concessions are performing, rates of contamination, and ideas for improvement and/or increased efficiencies for the program. ZWV Associates will weigh each waste stream from each concession and record that weight, along with any instances of contamination, using a specially designed software. This data will be used by Scraps and DEN to report on the impact of the pilot program and to generate progress reports for the concessions themselves. After weights are recorded, ZWV Associates will bring the waste to the proper disposal area (chute, compactor, toter, etc) throughout the concourse.

The Waste Diversion Unit in Colorado helps fund projects that reduce waste and boost the state's economy by overseeing contract monitoring and administration of all waste diversion grants. They support practices that protect the environment, create jobs, and improve public health. The areas of focus for the unit include funding projects, technical assistance, collaboration, and partnerships. The unit makes sure the waste diversion grant programs are running well and are in line with other department initiatives.
