The Auraria Campus is looking for a talented Sustainability Coordinator to join the Auraria Sustainability Campus Program (ASCP) to develop and execute a robust Education and Outreach plan, assist the Director of Sustainability with annual Greenhouse Gas Inventory requirements, manage and develop the student employees, facilitate opportunities for further student involvement, and otherwise expand the capacity of the ASCP. This position will also play a role in project research, various areas of strategic planning, and in developing proposals.

In alignment with the CEDC’s mission to develop circular economies within Colorado, support local economies, and keep materials circulating at their highest value, the CEDC recently launched the Circular Transportation Network (CTN). Sustainability Interns gain new skills in environmental sustainability while providing education and outreach in the Eagle Valley community. Interns will learn hands-on skills in fostering sustainable behaviors while also gaining valuable experience in how mountain communities, governments, and businesses are taking action and monitoring their environmental impacts.
Aspen City Council passed a new construction and demolition (C&D) diversion ordinance aimed at reducing landfill waste and supporting the city’s sustainability goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A key focus area in that effort is addressing the high volume of C&D debris, which represents 53% of the material in the Pitkin County landfill and accounts for 16% of Aspen’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The Remediation Program, with assistance from the Solid Waste Program, is initiating the stakeholder process to discuss an upcoming proposed rule that will increase the Hazardous Substance Response Fund portion of the Solid Waste User Fee by $0.01 per cubic yard. The Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission will receive an information briefing on the proposed rule during the February 18th meeting with a hearing on the proposed rule on May 20th with a proposed effective date of October 1, 2025.

CEDC Taps into Southwest Colorado’s Sustainability Roots
Third CEDC office location brings circular economy resources to the region
Leaders from Republic Services, Parker, Centennial and the State of Colorado recently celebrated the opening of a new recycling, waste and organics hauling facility in the Town of Parker. The 22,000-square-foot facility will employ 150 people and be home to 100 collection trucks that will service Southern Denver, Southern Aurora, Centennial, Parker, Castle Rock and surrounding communities.
PaintCare invites bids from qualified parties to provide collection support and transportation and processing services. Bidders may bid to service any or all of the four groups of sites/events identified in the scope of work within the RFP.
The CDPHE Air Pollution Control Division is starting public meetings focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from municipal solid waste landfills. These landfills are significant sources of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Addressing emissions from municipal solid waste landfills will help Colorado achieve its ambitious climate goals.
