Compost: A Simple, Powerful Solution

Instead of wasting away in landfills, organic materials can fuel Colorado’s future.

When food scraps and yard waste are buried, they release methane, a greenhouse gas more than 30 times stronger than carbon dioxide. Every time we compost, we:

  • Cut methane emissions that fuel climate change
  • Build healthy soils that conserve water and support local farms and gardens
  • Return nutrients back to the earth, creating a true circular economy
  • Strengthen Colorado’s communities by building a more sustainable future together

The Colorado Composting Council (COCC) welcomes everyone to take part in this movement. Join the COCC and make Colorado a leader in organics sustainability. Together, we can protect what makes our state thrive: our air, land, water, and community.

Mission of the Colorado Composting Council

2024 COCC Members

The Colorado Composting Council champions the growth and success of the composting industry by advancing organics recycling, compost manufacturing, and strong end markets. As a proud state chapter of the US Composting Council, we drive progress through:

  • Advocacy that shapes supportive policies and advances access to organics recycling across the state
  • Research that fuels innovation
  • Standards and practices that ensure quality
  • Education that empowers professionals and the public
  • Market development that delivers lasting economic and environmental value

As a committee of Recycle Colorado and a state chapter of the US Composting Council, we work to divert organic materials towards composting and to increase the availability of finished compost for key end markets, including agriculture. Guided by a strategic plan, we actively advance multiple projects to support these priorities.
